Chapter 6 Airport
Chapter 6 Airport
A piece of bread and a few bags of snacks only slightly relieved Chen Qing's hunger, and could not completely fill his stomach.
Chen Qing walked out of the commercial street full of clothing stores, walked two more streets, and finally came across a noodle shop.
This noodle shop has mediocre taste and is overpriced, so business is always slow.
However, for someone who has returned from the apocalypse, there is no such thing as being picky about food. He eats a bowl of beef noodles and two side dishes with great relish.
"Boss, check please." After a satisfying meal, Chen Qing waved to the waiter who was playing on his phone at the kitchen door.
"Seventy-five." The waiter put his phone on the table and came to Chen Qing.
"Sorry, I forgot my money." Chen Qing pretended to rummage through his pockets, then pulled out his iPhone: "How about I use this phone to pay for the meal?"
"Dude, did you steal this phone?" the waiter said, glancing at the phone.
"I found it."
"Why can't I be so lucky as to find the latest iPhone?"
"Don't ask me how I got it. This is the latest iPhone. It's worth the cost of a few meals. You've made a profit."
"How many meals did you say it cost?"
"Besides this meal, give me another 500 yuan. I haven't had any money for food these past few days."
"50, you stole this phone."
"I told you, I found it. 400."
"You don't know the password either, right? I need to re-flash the device. 100."
After some haggling, Chen Qing finally sold the Apple phone to the waiter for 200 yuan.
There was a bus stop right in front of the noodle shop. Chen Qing looked at the bus stop sign and found that bus number 12 could go directly to the "Jiangxin Airport" stop.
I counted them; there were 21 stops in total, which is quite far.
Chen Qing returned to the noodle shop and asked the waiter how long it would take to get to Jiangxin Airport Station by taking bus number 12. He learned that it would take about an hour.
Chen Qing was relieved. There were still 4 hours before Li Mengfei boarded the plane, which would be enough no matter what.
Jiangxin City's public transportation is quite convenient, costing only 1 yuan regardless of distance, but Chen Qing only had 10 yuan in his pocket, so he just put it in.
It was only three stops from the starting station, and there weren't many people on the bus, so Chen Qing chose a window seat.
The bus drove smoothly, and the scenery outside the window unfolded little by little before Chen Qing's eyes like an unreal dream.
The city here is very clean, with no mutilated corpses, no vehicle wreckage, and no rotting, disgusting things to be wary of.
The afternoon sun cast a warm golden hue on the glass curtain walls of the buildings, while the lush trees lining the streets swayed gently in the breeze. Electric bikes and bicycles weaved through the bike lanes, and delivery drivers flashed by.
On the sidewalk, people strolled leisurely. There were mothers holding their children's hands, the children carrying colorful pinwheels; elderly couples walking side by side, carrying freshly bought vegetables; and several students in school uniforms gathered at the supermarket entrance, chatting and laughing.
The red light came on, and the bus came to a smooth stop at the zebra crossing. A girl in a floral dress was texting as she crossed the street, while a man in a sharp suit was on the phone with a businesslike smile on his face.
Everything was shrouded in an orderly tranquility; there were no screams, no smells of blood, and no signs of despair.
This is truly a paradise-like world.
"Little brother, in a little while, you'll see the rocket!" Chen Qing heard his older brother Chen Hai's voice again.
When he was a child, Chen Hai took him on the first bus ride. At that time, there was a rocket exhibition at the science museum, which he really wanted to see. However, since it was not the weekend and he had to go to school, his parents wouldn't allow it. He was very frustrated at the time and was listless in class, unable to concentrate on his studies.
Just when he thought he was going to miss the rocket exhibition, his brother led him over the school wall, took a half-hour bus ride, and the two of them went to the science museum together.
He was very happy that day, even happier than when he received lucky money during Chinese New Year.
Unsurprisingly, when his family found out about his truancy, his father was furious and immediately pulled out his belt. However, his brother claimed that his brother wanted to go to the science museum and had dragged him there.
He clearly wanted to watch the Rockets, but in the end, it was his brother who got scolded...
"Next stop: Jiangxin Airport. Please take your belongings and exit through the rear door." The bus announcement pulled Chen Qing back to reality from her reverie. She took out her phone and checked the time. The screen showed 15:01, three hours before Li Mengfei boarded the plane.
"laugh--"
The sound of high-pressure gas being released before the car door opened was similar to that before the time machine cabin door opened, but much quieter.
Chen Qing got off the bus. The bus stop was simpler than he had imagined. It stood beside a two-way four-lane highway. There were no bustling commercial areas around, only some low-rise factories and construction sites. In the distance, he could see several undeveloped wastelands.
Chen Qing walked in the opposite direction of the construction site, and after about fifteen minutes, he came to a crossroads.
Looking to the left, it's still a construction site.
Looking to the right, you see rows of shops.
Chen Qing saw someone pulling a suitcase walking to the right, so he also walked to the right.
But in the end, the person pulling the suitcase didn't go to the airport as Chen Qing had expected, but instead walked into a rather old residential area.
Chen Qing stopped and looked around, but didn't find any buildings that resembled an airport. He then turned and walked into a bank next door.
"Hello sir, what business do you need?" The lobby manager, dressed in a suit, immediately came to greet him.
"Hello, I need to go to the airport. Could you please tell me how to get there?" Chen Qing asked.
"Are you going to Jiangxin Airport, sir?"
"right."
"Sir, you've come to the wrong place. Jiangxin Airport was relocated three years ago; there's no airport here anymore."
"What? The airport has moved?" Chen Qing was caught off guard. She thought she could intercept Li Mengfei and rescue her brother immediately, but she didn't expect that she had gone to the wrong place.
"If you're going to Xinjiang New Airport, turn right, go through three intersections, then turn right again. There's a bus stop there." The lobby manager was quite helpful, proactively giving Chen Qing directions: "Take bus number 8 to the World Trade Center stop, then take bus number 59 to 'Xinjiang New Airport'."
"How long will it take to get to Jiangxin Airport?" Chen Qing took out her phone again and checked the time. It was 15:33 PM. She hadn't noticed when she was looking for directions, but half an hour had passed.
"The new airport is quite far from here, it will take at least an hour and a half," the lobby manager said.
Chen Qing did a quick calculation. If it took an hour and a half, they would arrive at the airport at 5 p.m., which was only one hour before Li Mengfei's boarding time.
Time was tight, so Chen Qing didn't dare take the bus anymore and decided to take a taxi.
