Chapter 1451: Those Two Have Never Gotten Along
Chapter 1451: Those Two Have Never Gotten Along
"Come on, man, we’ve worked together for so many years, don’t be so ruthless. How about you just listen to me this time? As long as the two of us team up and take care of Xu Ke, our good days are just around the corner. Besides, the Chairman can’t really do anything about Xu Ke right now, can he? So why don’t we start with the employees first? As long as we stir up those people, it won’t be on us."
The R&D Department Director said this. Now that he’d already been removed from his position, he had no power at all.
So he could only think up these crooked tricks. And the Chairman clearly didn’t want him meddling anymore, so the R&D Department Director was very "smart": this time he absolutely could not make a move himself; he could only let someone else stick their neck out for him, and that person could only be that idiot Finance Department Director.
When the Finance Department Director heard this, he really didn’t want to help, but the moment he thought about the benefits afterward, and how Xu Ke might no longer be pressing down on the Finance Department, he hesitated. The Finance Department Director didn’t even know how to handle this budget. If Xu Ke was gone, maybe things wouldn’t be so hard for Finance anymore.
"Fine, I’ll see what I can do, but I can’t guarantee I’ll see it through. After all, the Chairman’s attitude on this isn’t clear at all. I can’t risk dragging myself down with you."
Watching the Finance Department Director’s back as he left, the R&D Department Director let out a cold snort and slammed his teacup down on the table with a loud clatter. Even this idiot was starting to abandon him now?
But even if that idiot wanted to make some moves, so what? Back in the day, he got into the company through the back door, and if he hadn’t had relatives on the inside to open that back door for him, would this moron have ever gotten in?
And all these years, this idiot hadn’t been able to do anything right. Most of the time, it was him helping out behind the scenes, but who would’ve thought this moron now knew how to cut him loose. Well, it wouldn’t be that easy.
"Director, what should we do? Are we really just going to let the Finance Department Director walk away like that? He’s the last one who can still help us."
Sitting in the R&D Department Director’s lap was a junior assistant who’d just been promoted in the company. This assistant had only been working here for two months, yet managed to lord it over everyone—wasn’t that all thanks to the R&D Department Director?
"Baby, relax. With the Finance Department Director’s brain, there’s no way he can come up with a better plan. He can only listen to us. If he doesn’t, he won’t be able to pull off anything big. Don’t worry."
Ever since the Finance Department Director went back, one look at the comments on the form made his blood pressure spike. They’d already tried so hard, yet still couldn’t hit that big shot’s sweet spot.
"Director, why don’t we ask the Finance team at the branch for advice? I heard their Finance people really have Mr. Xu eating out of their hands. Maybe we can get some tips from them. There’s no need to keep wasting time here. If we drag this out any longer, I’m afraid even the Chairman will start having opinions."
The Chairman already has opinions?
The Finance Department Director no longer believed all of this was just Xu Ke’s doing alone. The Chairman didn’t seem to have any problem with it, so clearly he’d misread things.
"It’s just that the Chairman gave him a bit of authority, and he actually thinks he’s that capable now? Wants to press down on me? He should take a good look in the mirror first. Does he really think I’m like those Finance people in his branch company?"
After the Finance Department Director finished, he turned and glared at the terrified junior employee, not bothering to rein himself in at all: "I’ll decide how to handle this. As for the proposal, we’re not changing anything for now. When the time comes, we’ll resubmit the same proposal. I don’t believe he can actually remember what our Finance Department submitted. The last proposal was already the optimal one—what more does he want? The R&D Department’s budget was cut by half already. What, does he want me to wipe out their entire budget? This is ridiculous. Even the Chairman would never agree to that."
The junior employee trembled, but there was nothing he could do in front of his direct superior. So he reprinted the proposal and sent it to the Chairman’s office.
And the moment he stepped inside, he saw the Chairman and the branch company’s President sitting side by side, heads bent over their phones, playing a game together.
"Weren’t people saying those two don’t get along, and there’s no way they’d sit together to play games? Then what the hell is this? What went wrong? Could the Director’s intel have been fake?"
The junior employee thought this, but still kept his head down as he set the proposal on the desk. Afraid Xu Ke would lose his temper, he hurriedly backed out, not daring to say a word.
Xu Ke glanced at the file on the desk, gave it a quick skim, and immediately saw it was the same as the one from that morning. Just as the junior employee was about to step out, Xu Ke suddenly spoke.
"This document is exactly the same as the one from this morning, and you still brought it over to waste paper? Do you really think I have no memory at all? Go tell your Director: stop using this crap to try to fool me and the Chairman. If you submit something like this again, your entire Finance Department can pack up and leave. Who spoiled you all into thinking this was okay?"
"And tell your Director this: even if I’m gone one day, the Chairman isn’t going to suddenly go blind."
The junior employee broke out in a cold sweat down his back, snatched the documents up, and bolted out. Xiao Zhen had originally thought to leave his people some dignity, but he hadn’t expected this employee to actually be stirring up trouble behind his back, clearly not putting him in his eyes at all.
Since they dared to submit the same document again, then even if Xu Ke was someone he disliked, he still couldn’t allow Headquarters staff to mess around like this.
"You really are too arrogant. Keeping you in the company was my mistake. Why don’t you just hurry up and leave, stop blocking my way. Having you here is seriously annoying."
Watching as Xu Ke carried him to another victory, Xiao Zhen was both furious and helpless. Who told Xu Ke to be so good at this game? Xiao Zhen was slowly starting to get the hang of the rules.
Xu Ke of course knew his uncle was just taking his anger out on him because of the game, but his uncle’s change in attitude was what surprised him the most. Since that was the case, he might as well stick around more; maybe he could completely change his uncle’s opinion of him.
"Hey, I’m literally carrying you in this game right now. Are you sure you don’t need me to carry you? If you really don’t, I’ll just leave for real."
Xu Ke said this, but still queued up another match. Xiao Zhen rolled his eyes helplessly. This kid was all talk. But why did he suddenly think this kid wasn’t bad? Was it just because he’d been around him too long? That wouldn’t do.
Even in the villa, the old Mr. Xiao heard about this.
"How is that possible? Those two have never gotten along."
