Chapter 27 Emily
Chapter 27 Emily
The first class on the second day was another theory class.
"Today, we will begin the second unit of our Mana Theory course," the instructor's voice reached my ears. He wasn't a named character in the game, although I would occasionally see him appear as "Professor."
"As we have learned before, magic is fundamental to our world and all living beings..."
He kept talking about things related to magic, but I, sitting in the back row, didn't hear a word he said.
Because I looked at the textbook for a while, I grasped its essence in a short time.
The main reason I couldn't listen was that the professor wasn't good at teaching... He might be good at academics and research, but he was definitely not good at teaching, because he kept interrupting himself while speaking, making it hard for me to concentrate.
"Anyway, I can learn on my own in the future." With this in mind, I started to think about what I should do next.
First, I need money. My bank account is almost empty, and if I intend to use a gun, I must be able to afford it.
There are several ways to make money. For a time traveler, the most basic way is to buy stocks, because understanding the future of the game can be helpful.
But this also means that I first need funds to invest in stocks.
"I can solve this by borrowing money from the college," I thought to myself.
Every student has the right to borrow money, up to a maximum of valor, which is enough to buy a high-end firearm.
I can't possibly spend the borrowed money this way. I know I need to invest in stocks, and borrowing money to invest in stocks seems like a good idea.
However, I don't understand the details of the stock market very well; many small details can affect it. I'm the kind of person who likes to delve into the details of games, but even I don't pay much attention to stocks because, as a gamer, I'd rather hunt monsters for money than deal with stocks in a game.
And so, I began to recall the small details I had seen in the game, looking for investment opportunities.
"Hmm... if I remember correctly, there was a side quest where a girl would ask us to join her guild to explore dungeons because they needed help. Ethan was a kind character, and he would help the girl, and their guild would suddenly rise to prominence as a result." I thought to myself.
This is a common side quest; helping random NPCs increases a player's reputation, potentially gaining a ally in the future. While Ethan will help the girl, he won't join her guild. However, the girl will still raise funds for him and repay him with her own money. She approached Ethan because he was initially ranked low, easy to talk to, and she knew he was a kind-hearted person.
I turned my gaze to the girl sitting at the front right of the classroom.
She was wearing a regular school uniform, but even in such simple attire, she stood out because I saw some boys looking at her.
Her name is Emily Anderson. She has long, flowing chestnut hair that reaches her shoulders, and deep blue eyes. When she smiles, her whole face lights up, and it's hard not to notice the warmth and kindness in her expression.
But my eyes can see things others can't. Her school uniform had minor tears, and although she looked very fashionable, she wore no accessories. However, there was a small hole in her ear, which was for wearing an earring. She kept touching her wrist, indicating that she used to wear bracelets.
Her eyes looked quite tired, and her hands were covered in calluses. I could even see her flinch occasionally as the wind blew against her arms. It was obvious that her arms were injured, but she was trying her best to hide it.
Based on this alone, I can deduce that she desperately needs money but has nowhere to turn. In the game, she has already used up the money she borrowed from the academy, but she still needs money.
"I should join their dungeon exploration too," I thought.
There are many online stores that sell guns, but I plan to check out the black market and junkyards first.
With that in mind, I began to plan how to implement it.
The most important thing now is to observe Emily and strike at the most opportune moment. Although there's still plenty of time for her to seek help, considering she's likely to...
"Morse, are you listening?"
It seems I need to deal with this professor who doesn't like me first.
......
And so, the days passed by, until the weekend arrived.
As the last rays of sunlight streamed into the classroom on Friday afternoon, signaling the end of the last class of the week, Professor Williams, the teacher of History and Legends, stood up from his desk to address the students.
"Alright, everyone, before you head off to your weekend, I have a little task for you," Professor Williams announced with a warm smile. "As you know, we've been discussing ancient civilizations and their impact on our world. For this assignment, I'd like each of you to choose one civilization from those we've studied so far and research one aspect of their culture, art, or technology that you find most fascinating."
“You have a whole week to complete this assignment,” Professor Williams continued. “Next Friday, each of you will give a short presentation on a topic of your choice, and feel free to use any visual aids or props to enhance your presentation.”
He scanned the classroom, making eye contact with each student. "Remember, the purpose of this assignment is not just to understand civilizations themselves, but also how their progress or cultural contributions have shaped our world today. So choose wisely and make your presentation captivating!"
“There’s one more thing,” Professor Williams added, “I encourage everyone to have fun with this assignment. History is not just about remembering dates and names, but about discovering the stories of our world’s past and how they have influenced our present.”
"Have a great weekend, everyone!" Professor Williams waved goodbye to the students. "Remember, history is an adventure waiting to be explored!"
And so, he left the classroom with a smile. However, after he left, everyone booed.
“Ugh… what a boring class…” I heard Julia puff out her cheeks as she spoke. Ethan and Irina were beside her.
"What are you planning to do this weekend?" Irina asked, glancing at Victor sitting in front of her. But his eyes weren't on her; they were fixed on someone else.
“Julia, our guild discovered a new dungeon yesterday. Shall we explore it together?” Victor asked, his eyes sparkling as he looked at Julia.
“Okay, I’ll join,” Julia replied with a smile, though she probably didn’t understand what her answer meant.
“Okay, then we’ll arrange a meeting later,” Victor replied, his serious face now beaming with a smile.
Irina was displeased that Victor was openly ignoring her. With her cunning nature, she interjected, "Then I'll go too."
"No, this..."
"Sounds good. I've been wanting to see a magician use magic for a long time."
“Julie…” Victor was about to refuse, but Irina wouldn’t let him.
"Remember to let me know when you're going," Irina said with a smile as she approached Julia.
I also saw that Ethan wanted to go to the dungeon with them, but he's too weak right now and can't go with them yet.
"Ethan, do you have any plans?" Lucas nudged the distracted Ethan and asked.
"I'm going to training."
"Let's go, let's go to town and have a look around."
"No, I have to go to training."
"Ugh...."
As they were talking to themselves, I stood up and left the classroom. With the weekend approaching, I could finally leave the college.
I trained non-stop all week, and also used materials from the game to maximize my training level, with pretty good results.

My strength, agility, and most importantly, my constitution have all been enhanced. In some respects, constitution is one of my most important attributes.
Now, my physical stats have reached the average level of a normal adult.
For the past week, I've been observing Emily, noting her behavior, physical condition, and so on. Now, I have plenty of time to earn some money on my own.
Once I got to my room, I started preparing for my weekend trip.
I turned on my watch and checked my bank account, and found that there was Waler in it.
On Wednesday, I applied for a student loan, and the college responded to me very quickly.
The academy allows students to use the weapons they provide outside, but the same weapons will also be used during exams, joint training, and practical exercises. However, if you lose your weapon, you're basically dead... because a standard weapon costs 10 watts.
The composite bow on my back is more expensive than ordinary weapons; it's worth around 12.5.
This is why most students like to use their weapons outside of the college, but I don't really care about it.
And so, I left the room and headed to Arcadia train station.
On the way, I spotted the same guard who had let me out last Friday. When he saw me about to leave the school again, he gave me a knowing look.
"Are you going home?"
"Yes." Although I was misunderstood, I didn't mind and nodded in response.
“Great... It’s good to be with family, but you have to come before Sunday’s curfew.”
"Thank you, sir." I nodded, and soon after, I left the academy and arrived at the train station.
Thanks to the fact that students at the Hunter Academy can travel anywhere without paying, I managed to book a seat to Ariopolis.
And so, my weekend began...
