Chapter 161 Gains and Losses (Part 2)
Qian Jiayu and his two companions arrived at the Criminal Investigation Department. After explaining their purpose to the staff on duty at the entrance, they were led to a meeting room by a police officer in charge of internal affairs.
Not long after, Director Shi and Yu Zhen arrived, followed by a female police officer carrying a laptop.
Zhiwei Technology is now an important partner of the police. Director Shi came to meet with the three of them as a courtesy, and after exchanging a few pleasantries, he left.
Yu Zhen and Wu Wenjun are old comrades-in-arms, and because of this relationship, the atmosphere of their conversation was very relaxed.
Yu Zhen briefed the three members of Zhiwei on what had happened last night and the results of the investigation, except for some sensitive or uncertain information.
He then inquired about Tai Liqun and Tao Yicheng's situation, as well as their dispute with Zhiwei Company, to which Qian Jiayu provided detailed answers.
The case of hiring someone to commit assault is now largely clear, and there are no suspects yet to be apprehended. Yu Zhen's questioning was to gain a more comprehensive understanding of Tai Liqun and Tao Yicheng's motives and to provide more evidence for subsequent investigations.
The case will be transferred to the headquarters for handling, at which time Zhiwei Company will need to provide a written explanation.
The policewoman transcribed Qian Jiayu's account into a document on her computer. After Qian Jiayu finished speaking and she reviewed it to ensure he had no questions, she left with the computer. A while later, she returned with the printed materials and asked Qian Jiayu to sign them.
After exchanging information, Wu Wenjun asked, "Old Yu, we'd like to meet Tai Liqun. Is that convenient for you?"
"It's possible, but not alone," Yu Zhen nodded. "And none of you should all go."
"It's fine as long as we can meet." Wu Wenjun said, glancing at Qian Jiayu. "Then I won't go."
"Please wait a moment." Yu Zhen got up and went out to make arrangements.
Shortly after, he arrived with a police officer investigating the hiring of a hitman. He first introduced the three of them and then handed the signed meeting approval form to Qian Jiayu.
Qian Jiayu and Song Jingcheng followed the police officer to the investigation area, and the policewoman also left.
Only Yu Zhen and Wu Wenjun remained in the reception room, and their conversation became more casual.
"Your company has really been going through a lot lately, with an employee even committing a crime," Yu Zhenyu said sarcastically.
"What you're saying!" Wu Wenjun was very dissatisfied with his old comrade's argument. "Tai Liqun and Tao Yicheng lost their minds because of greed. As for the previous case, we were innocent victims. What does that have to do with the company?"
Yu Zhen snorted and questioned, "You're also in charge of security at your company, right? With employees leaving get off work so late, don't you have any protective measures in place?"
Wu Wenjun thought to himself, "The company has more than 10,000 employees. How can I manage them all? Besides, the country has always had good public security. I've never heard of any company making such an arrangement."
However, he knew that Yu Zhen's so-called "employee" referred to a specific person. In the battle for Zhiwei's IPO, Wei Hongsi had inadvertently found himself in the eye of the storm, and he certainly should have taken some precautions.
While President Dai might not have considered this, he should have, as it was precisely his duty. If the police hadn't arrived in time, the consequences would have been extremely serious if something had happened to Wei Hongsi.
Given that the task force was led by a senior official from the General Administration, Yu Zhen's resentment became understandable.
Wu Wenjun said, "It seems that our Engineer Wei is highly valued here."
Yu Zhen glanced at him sideways: "With his contributions, he's already qualified for a third-class merit award. That's what the leaders said, not what I said."
After Tai Liqun was arrested, the police officers in charge of the case handled him according to the measures to restrain him until he was sober, and medical staff gave him intravenous infusion.
Tai Liqun was indeed quite drunk, but it was mostly due to his mood; the amount of alcohol he consumed did not match his actual state.
He regained consciousness less than an hour after finishing the IV drip, but after realizing his situation, he chose to continue pretending to be drunk. It seemed that as long as he refused to wake up, it was all just a ridiculous dream.
Unfortunately, the police officers handling the case didn't give him a chance to bury his head in the sand. An hour after the IV drip, they drew his blood for an alcohol test. After the results came out, they took him to the interrogation room and put him in the interrogation chair.
At this point, Tai Liqun could no longer deceive himself. He first struggled and resisted, and then clamored to find a lawyer.
The person in charge of interrogating him was Guo Weiran, one of the key members of the special task force.
He recited the contents of the rights and obligations statement verbatim. After listening, Tai Liqun remained silent.
Guo Weiran said, "You can choose not to say anything, but based on the existing evidence and the testimonies of others, you are the sole culprit in this 'employment-for-murder' case."
Tai Liqun shouted, "I don't know what you're talking about!"
Guo Weiran sneered and said, "You paid for the hitman; the transfer records are crystal clear. By the way, let me tell you, Tao Yicheng made the lion's share from you. Of your 600,000, he kept 400,000 for himself."
Tai Liqun found it hard to believe: "Impossible, he should have given 400,000 yuan, how could he lie to me for such a small amount?"
Guo Weiran sneered, "Don't you know he made his fortune by subcontracting projects?"
Tai Liqun remained stunned for a long time before suddenly losing control of his emotions.
Guo Weiran left to handle other matters, and when Tai Liqun returned after calming down, he became very responsive to her questions.
When Qian Jiayu and Song Jingcheng met Tai Liqun in the interrogation room, Tai Liqun had already rested for several hours, but looked even more haggard than before.
In Qian Jiayu's eyes, Tai Liqun looked like he had aged more than ten years in just a few days, and had completely lost his energy and spirit.
Tai Liqun recognized Qian Jiayu, but had no recollection of Song Jingcheng. Qian Jiayu then introduced him, explaining that Song was the company's legal director.
Tai Liqun paused for a moment, then asked, "How many years will I be sentenced to?"
Song Jingcheng glanced at the police officers present, and seeing them nod, he said, "About three to ten years, depending on your cooperation in the investigation and whether you have made any meritorious contributions."
Tai Liqun lowered his head and remained silent.
Qian Jiayu said, "Mr. Tai, as far as we know, you still have a large amount of outstanding loans at the bank."
Tai Liqun suddenly looked up: "What, is Lao Dai trying to buy my shares again?"
Song Jingcheng said, "President Tai, you are now involved in a criminal case and have been detained by the police. The bank will also be informed and will then demand that you immediately repay the loan. If you do not have sufficient funds, your assets will be auctioned off according to law. President Dai has the right of first refusal to purchase the shares under the same conditions; it's just a matter of time."
Qian Jiayu said, "President Tai, you still have family, and you'll be back in a few years. Please consider it."
