Chapter 3 Plan
Chapter 3 Plan
Looking at the zombies in front of him, Lu Chen felt that weapons alone were not enough; it would be best to also get some protective gear.
Zombies are already impervious to pain and death, but if you add a full set of defensive gear to them, that's when they become truly terrifying.
Of course, he didn't have any proper protective gear.
However, it's August now, the hottest time of the year. These zombies are almost all wearing short sleeves and shorts, with a large area of exposed skin.
This means that even just wearing a few extra layers of thick clothing can create an extra layer of protection.
Lu Chen thought for a moment, then opened the wardrobe and rummaged through the bottom to find his winter clothes. There was a thick cotton-padded coat, a pair of fleece-lined sweatpants, and a turtleneck sweater.
He first dressed the zombie in a turtleneck sweater, then a cotton-padded jacket, and finally fleece-lined sweatpants.
After he finished wearing it, he stepped back and looked it over.
The effect wasn't exactly respectable. In August, a zombie wearing a winter coat, looking bloated and awkward no matter how you looked at it.
But Lu Chen didn't care about appearances; he cared about practicality.
The rest of the zombies don't use weapons or have any fighting skills; they rely entirely on their most primitive claws and teeth.
Thick winter clothing can offer some cushioning against the biting claws and teeth. Even just a few extra seconds can be a matter of life and death in a fight.
Of course, clothes alone are not enough.
In the past two days, the official website has released a lot of information about zombies, the most important of which is that the weak points of zombies are their heads and necks.
The neck is relatively easy to treat.
Lu Chen pulled a dark gray cashmere scarf from the wardrobe, wrapped it around the zombie's neck twice, and tied a tight knot.
The scarf is thick; my mom sent it to me last winter, saying it was windy in the city and I should remember to wear it when I went out. At the time, I thought it was too much trouble and just stuffed it deep in the closet. I never expected it to come in handy now.
As for the head, the best solution Lu Chen could think of was a helmet.
But he didn't have a helmet in his house, so he had to go down to the electric bike parking area on the first floor to find one.
"No rush." Lu Chen suppressed the urge to go downstairs immediately and looked the zombie up and down. "It's armed enough for now."
He nodded in satisfaction.
Upon closer examination, the attack methods of ordinary zombies are actually quite limited.
The reason humans fear zombies is largely because they fear the viruses they carry.
But since they were already zombies, they naturally weren't worried about getting infected.
Those ordinary zombies that can only scratch and bite can be easily split open with a single slash from the cleaver in its hand.
In terms of attack power, they are worlds apart!
"Come here, stand over here and listen to my instructions."
Lu Chen took out his phone, turned on the recording function, and began giving instructions.
"Punch, kick, chop."
"One more time, make it smoother. Yes, like that."
Under his command, the zombie unleashed a bizarre and nonsensical combo.
But Lu Chen didn't care; what he wanted was proof.
After recording the video, he deliberately walked up to the zombie, raised his phone, and took a picture with the zombie he had armed.
After doing all this, he opened WeChat, ready to send the video to his sister. He wanted to prove his powerful abilities and also put his parents at ease.
"Holy crap, where's the signal?!"
Seeing the "Network connection failed" message on the screen, Lu Chen's heart skipped a beat.
He quickly raised his phone and paced back and forth in the house. Fortunately, when he reached the balcony, the signal icon flickered and lit up again by one bar.
Lu Chen immediately stopped, leaned against the balcony door frame to maintain a position where he could receive the signal, and quickly clicked send.
The video wasn't long, but the signal was so bad that the progress bar crawled like a snail. He stood there for a full ten minutes before finally watching the progress bar reach the end.
Sent successfully!
However, looking at the signal bar in the upper left corner of his phone, which could go out again at any moment, Lu Chen still felt heavy-hearted. He estimated that after today, he would be completely cut off from his family.
Just as he was wondering what to do next, a WeChat message popped up.
Lu Yao: "!!!"
First, three exclamation marks were sent, followed by a shocked emoji.
Lu Yao: "Brother, you really are a superhuman, and you even have the ability to control zombies?"
It's no wonder Lu Yao was shocked. The internet wasn't completely cut off yet, especially in the past two days, news about people with superpowers was definitely the hottest topic online.
Therefore, even for ordinary people, the concept of superhumans is not unfamiliar at all.
But the vast majority of superpowered individuals are either elemental users, such as those who can create fireballs, palm lightning, or wind blades.
They are either physically mutated, such as having superhuman strength or being made of steel.
The ability to control zombies is simply outrageous.
In this apocalyptic era, this ability leaves much to the imagination.
Especially when Lu Yao saw that Lu Chen had armed the zombie, she realized how terrifying a fully armed zombie horde would be.
So she immediately started asking questions incessantly.
In response, Lu Chen briefly explained the effects of his superpower and told the other party that he could only control 10 zombies at the moment, and that he should forget about dreaming of a zombie army for the time being.
Lu Yao: "That's still incredibly powerful. I came across a blogger's statistics yesterday, and the abilities that these superpowered individuals announce online can generally only be used for about ten attacks before their abilities are completely exhausted."
"In terms of endurance in battle, they are far inferior to you."
"Moreover, superhumans can absorb the energy of the Red Moon to become stronger, just like zombies. You will definitely be able to control the zombie army in the future."
Seeing the long message Lu Yao sent, Lu Chen couldn't help but smile: "Now you know how awesome your brother is!"
"So don't worry, even if the rescue team doesn't arrive, I can still come to save you."
"Your food supply can last for a month, right? I can definitely get there within a month."
This time, Lu Yao didn't refuse, but she still reminded her, "You must also be careful. Improve your abilities first, then come over."
"And if we eat our food sparingly, we can last at least a month and a half."
Seven days before the Red Moon, many people stocked up on food, and their families were no exception.
They bought a lot of rice and noodles, and because it's inconvenient to go to town in the countryside, they bought even more than Lu Chen, enough for a month.
"Don't worry, I know. Take good care of Mom and Dad. My signal is almost gone, and I probably won't be able to contact them after today," Lu Chen typed back.
He closed the chat window and opened the map.
Although he spoke with great confidence, the journey from his home city of Wanshun to his hometown of Ningcheng involves crossing a province, a total distance of 1500 kilometers.
To cover such a long distance in a month, I had to travel an average of 50 kilometers per day.
In peacetime, he could walk back even on foot, but in this post-apocalyptic world, let alone 50 kilometers a day, even 5 kilometers a day would be considered an achievement.
"And I might not really have a month left," Lu Chen muttered to himself. "The countryside might be relatively safe at first, but who knows what will happen later."
Because it's not just humans that can mutate.
Animals can also mutate; the harm caused by one zombie wild boar is probably more terrifying than that caused by ten human zombies.
He dared not gamble on the village's luck.
"First, we need to improve our strength according to the plan. The stronger we are, the more solutions we will have."
Lu Chen turned off his phone.
The first thing to do, naturally, is to fill all ten slots for controlling zombies.
He walked to the door, pressed his ear against it, and listened to the sounds outside.
Some time has passed, and the wandering zombie has left; for the time being, there is no sound.
He thought for a moment and decided to have the zombies come and help restore the "zombie catcher" at the door.
Immediately afterwards, he went into the room, took out two nylon ropes, and handed them to the zombie he was controlling.
Lu Chen gave the other person a temporary name: Dazhuang.
He quietly opened the door, ordered Dazhuang to leave, and as soon as Dazhuang stepped out, Lu Chen immediately closed and locked the door.
Then he switched the control mode to possession control.
The next moment, the perspective shifted, and he saw the scene in the corridor.
Sure enough, there was another zombie wandering in the corridor; it was a woman.
Lu Chen recognized her; she was a resident on their floor. He didn't know her exact name, but he had heard others call her Aunt Wang.
As Lu Chen looked at the other person, Aunt Wang, who had transformed into a zombie, also looked over. However, it glanced at her and then looked away.
Zombies generally do not attack each other.
Except in special circumstances, such as when attacked or when fighting for food.
Seeing acquaintances turned into zombies, Lu Chen felt a mix of emotions. But he quickly suppressed them.
He ignored the other person and walked straight toward the fire escape.
He lives on the fifth floor, which has six residential units per floor, two elevators, and one fire escape staircase.
Now that the power is out, the only way for zombies on other floors to get up is through the fire escape stairs.
So the first thing Lu Chen had to do was lock the door to the fire escape.
Upon arriving at the fire escape entrance, the door was open.
Perhaps this is why Dazhuang, who is not a resident of this floor, wandered here.
He closed the door, took out the shorter nylon rope, wrapped it around the doorknob a few times, tied a tight knot, and "locked" the door.
Lu Chen manipulated Da Zhuang to push hard, and only after confirming that it couldn't be pushed open did he nod in satisfaction.
In this way, as long as the zombies on the fifth floor are cleared out, the entire floor can become his safe zone.
Then, he returned to the zombie called Aunt Wang, took out another longer nylon rope, and prepared to tie it up.
The other party immediately began to struggle, even opening its mouth to bite.
However, a zombie's strength is closely related to its physique in life, and Aunt Wang's strength in life was obviously far less than Da Zhuang's.
Lu Chen controlled Da Zhuang and pinned him to the ground, quickly tied his hands and legs, and then dragged him back to the room.
Everything went more smoothly than I had imagined.
What followed was even simpler. With Da Zhuang holding the opponent down, Lu Chen didn't even need to use the trap; he simply reached out and pressed his hand against it.
Ten seconds later, control of the second zombie was completed.
He released his grip, straightened up, and looked at the two zombies standing quietly in front of him.
"Next, we need to clean up all the zombies on the entire floor."
He turned to look in the direction of the corridor.
"I wonder if there are any other survivors."
