Li Baowen stood on the stage and began his inaugural speech.
Dai Chen'an whispered, "I heard that Wang Jing is involved in other matters and may not be able to retire peacefully."
"What's the matter?" I asked curiously.
“His private life was exposed by his wife and daughter,” Dai Chen’an said. “It seems that when he was taking stock of his assets, his wife and daughter discovered that he was keeping a mistress outside. Actually, if Wang Jing had shared half of his money with them, they wouldn’t have reported him. But he had no feelings for them and was unwilling to give them even a penny more, so they reported him in a fit of anger.”
This is truly unexpected.
"He deserved it." I smiled coldly.
Li Baowen's speech has ended.
Everyone applauded.
Lunch will be served later in the school's banquet hall.
"Chen An, you go ahead, I'm going to the restroom." I turned and left.
Dai Chen'an looked at my retreating figure thoughtfully.
I finished using the restroom and came out.
Huo Yubai stood in the corridor, his slender figure appearing somewhat aloof and lonely.
“I was just looking for you.” I walked over and said, “Our group is going on a team building trip tomorrow, and it just so happens that it’s time for you to have acupuncture tomorrow. Actually, it’s okay to wait a few days. We can talk about it when I get back.”
"Your group?" He frowned slightly.
"It's Chen'an's birthday," I explained.
He sneered, "His birthday?"
I was confused: "Yes."
"Got it." He nodded casually. "Where are you going for your team building activity?"
"I think it was called something like Stargazing Camping." I don't quite remember.
"I heard there's a meteor shower tomorrow night." He looked at me meaningfully: "Do you think wishes made upon shooting stars really come true?"
"I don't think so." I wasn't too sure either: "It's just making a wish. Whether it comes true or not is secondary. It's just for peace of mind."
His expression was strange.
"Aren't you going to eat?" I asked. "Let's go."
“What’s so good about this lunch?” He grabbed my wrist. “Come with me.”
"Where to?" I frowned.
"I'll take you to eat something else," he said.
"Wait a minute," I called out to him. "I'll call Chen An and tell him."
He snatched my phone: "We agreed that my life was in your hands. You ignored my life to celebrate someone else's birthday, so I'll punish you by making you spend your lunch break with me."
what?
"What kind of twisted logic is that?" I was speechless.
He pulled me away.
Moreover, they didn't go through the main gate, but through the side gate.
"Huo Yubai, I'll go to dinner with you, but give me back my phone." I said urgently, "I already told Dai Chen'an that he'd be worried if I didn't tell him."
"I've already sent someone to tell him." He didn't even turn his head. "Shen Yan, you always keep your word. You stood me up tomorrow, but all I need is this time around noon today, and you won't even let me have it?"
Has he already spoken to Dai Chen'an?
"Huo Yubai, you've been planning this for a long time, haven't you?" I stopped in my tracks.
He stopped as well, and explained in a cool, detached tone, "No."
I frowned: "Don't give me that. You sent someone to tell Dai Chen'an before I told you I was going to a team-building event!"
"I just ran into Dai Chen'an, and he told me himself," Huo Yubai replied.
I was taken aback.
Was it Dai Chen'an who told him?
“You can ask him.” Huo Yubai handed me the phone. “If I’m lying, you can just turn around and leave.”
"Forget it, there's no need to bother him with such a small matter." I glanced at him: "Just don't act on your own next time."
"Okay, I won't do it again next time." His handsome face showed a hint of ingratiation: "Can we have dinner together now? I'm hungry, I didn't eat this morning."
"Why aren't you eating properly?" I scolded. "Your body needs proper care. How can you not eat properly? Are you ignoring what I'm saying?"
"No, I'm just a bit busy today." He pulled me along and continued walking: "There's a noodle shop near the back gate of the University of Traditional Chinese Medicine, and the noodles are really delicious."
"How come you know so much about the University of Traditional Chinese Medicine?" I asked, puzzled.
“I come here often,” he explained, “thinking I might run into you.”
I felt embarrassed.
“I’ve eaten at all the restaurants around here.” He smiled and said, “If you need, I can put together a ranking list for you, so you won’t make any bad choices.”
"I'm not that picky about food, I'll just eat at the cafeteria, it's cheap and affordable," I said.
"Okay, I understand." He nodded.
"What do you know?" I asked, puzzled.
"It's nothing." He walked briskly.
We walked through a narrow alleyway lined with food stalls and a few nicely decorated shops, all with an antique charm and a lovely ambiance.
Soon, he stopped in front of a noodle shop: "This is it."
I looked it over from all angles: "It looks pretty good."
He smiled slightly and pulled me inside.
"Mr. Huo, you've arrived." A middle-aged woman smiled. "It's been a long time since you've come."
"Hmm." Huo Yubai explained casually, "I've been very busy lately."
The middle-aged woman looked at me and said, "What a beautiful and delicate young lady. Is this your girlfriend?"
Huo Yubai glanced at me and coughed.
I was speechless: "Explain yourself."
"I don't want to explain." He looked at me with his penetrating eyes.
I laughed in exasperation.
He pulled me to sit down.
A middle-aged woman walked over: "What would you like to eat?"
"I'm still the same as always." He looked at me. "What would you like to eat?"
I looked at the menu on the wall.
"The eel noodles here are very good," Huo Yubai recommended.
"Then let's have eel noodles," I said, accepting his recommendation.
"Okay, two bowls of eel noodles." The middle-aged woman walked away.
"I didn't expect everyone here to know you." I said in surprise.
"Because this noodle shop is delicious," he explained.
A middle-aged woman brought over a pot of hot tea and two ceramic cups.
Huo Yubai rinsed my cup and then poured me a cup of hot tea.
I took a sniff: "It's red date and ginger tea."
"Here, brown rice tea is served in the summer, and red date and ginger tea in the winter." Huo Yubai poured himself a cup as well.
Before he could even drink, his phone rang.
"I'm going to answer a call." Huo Yubai got up and went out.
He stood outside the shop, his handsome and noble face suddenly turning serious, his dark eyes glancing at me from time to time.
"Young lady, these are some side dishes I made myself. I'm giving them to you to try." The middle-aged woman was very hospitable.
"Thank you," I said.
“You and Mr. Huo are such a perfect match.” The middle-aged woman smiled. “He always comes here alone. Once I asked him why he always came to eat noodles alone. He said he came here to see the person he liked. He was satisfied just to see her from afar. He said he would die happy if he could eat noodles at the same place as her. I thought he was being too serious.”
I asked awkwardly, "Does he come here often?"
“Sometimes he comes every day, sometimes he only comes once every few months, it’s hard to say.” The middle-aged woman recalled, “He takes good care of our business, and I’m happy for him to be with the person he likes.”
I was both amused and exasperated: "How can you be so sure that the person he met here was me?"
“It’s definitely you,” the middle-aged woman said. “Let me tell you, a woman’s intuition is the most accurate. He looks like a devoted person, definitely not the kind of fickle scumbag.”
