Dai Chen'an sent me a WeChat message, asking when I was going back.
I was very worried about Huo Yubai being all alone in the guesthouse.
Me: Huo Yubai's fever keeps recurring, and I'm worried about leaving him here. You guys have a good celebration. Oh, by the way, the box I brought is a birthday gift for you. Open it and take a look.
Dai Chen'an: Thank you for your birthday gift. But you've been here for every birthday in the past five years, and I'm a little unaccustomed to not being here tonight.
I paused for a moment: It's the same even if everyone else is here; everyone genuinely wishes you a happy birthday.
Dai Chen'an: If it weren't for them being there for me, I would be quite pitiful, wouldn't I?
I was embarrassed: How could that be?
Dai Chen'an: After all, I was the one who asked you out first.
I felt embarrassed.
That’s right.
Me: I'm so sorry, but plans can change. Let's do it next year.
Dai Chen'an felt bitter. So, just because he was less pitiful than Huo Yubai, did he think he could just hand her over to someone else?
Dai Chen'an didn't reply to me again, so I put my phone down.
Huo Yubai fell asleep peacefully. I touched his forehead and his fever had subsided, which relieved me.
I was very tired today. I drove here and did some work, so I sat on the sofa and fell asleep without realizing it.
When I woke up again, I found myself lying in bed.
I was the only one in the bed.
"Huo Yubai?" I hurriedly got up.
"I'm here," Huo Yubai's slightly hoarse voice came from the balcony.
I went over to him and said, "Has your fever gone down? You're just standing outside in the wind!"
He pulled me over and then wrapped me in his down jacket, pulling me into his arms.
"I'm sweating." He was all warm.
I glared at him: "Let me go!"
"Let's watch the meteor shower." He looked up. "There are lots of meteors tonight."
I looked up and just then, a shooting star streaked across the beautiful, velvety blue night sky.
"I see it!" I exclaimed excitedly. "It's so beautiful!"
Huo Yubai smiled and said, "Yes, I saw it too."
"Another one!" I immediately raised my hands, clasped them together, and said, "I hope I become beautiful, thin, and rich!"
"I hope that Shen Yan's wishes can all come true." Huo Yubai smiled gently.
I opened my eyes. "Make your own wish."
"My wish is that all your wishes come true." He smiled, "The only thing I can't do is listen to you on this one thing."
I snorted.
Then two more shooting stars will streak across the sky together.
"Wow, it really is a meteor shower! There are so many!" I exclaimed.
"Actually, it was almost over," Huo Yubai replied. "I wanted to wake you, but you were fast asleep."
"It's all because I'm taking care of you." I rolled my eyes at him.
"You've worked hard." Huo Yubai smiled. "I'll drive you back."
"You're coming back with us?" I asked, surprised.
"If I get sick after you leave, who will I turn to?" he asked.
"You should have Uncle Huo Fei come pick you up," I said.
“Professor Shen, he is one of the vice presidents of my company. He is very busy. My assistant has been helping me with company matters while I was away for the past two days. This is a private trip for me. I can’t disturb them, can I?” Huo Yubai smiled faintly: “They are just employees and they didn’t do anything to you.”
I retorted angrily, "They didn't provoke me, you did! You know you're not in good health, yet you still came all the way to the mountains. Are models that beautiful that you have to come all the way to the mountains to see them?"
"The models aren't good-looking," Huo Yubai said casually. "The scenery here isn't great either. If it weren't for this meteor shower, probably no one would come."
"Then what are you doing here?" I frowned.
“I came... to see you.” He looked at me with his deep black eyes. “I wanted to watch this spectacular meteor shower with you.”
I looked at him helplessly.
"What do you think the universe is really like?" He suddenly changed the subject: "Is there such a thing as time travel?"
"I don't know about time travel, but there should be rebirth," I whispered.
"What did you say?" He didn't hear clearly.
"Why do you want to turn back time?" I asked, curious.
“Because I did some bad things, I want to go back and make amends.” His gaze darkened slightly.
"As the saying goes, after the clouds disperse, the moon will shine; perhaps there will be an opportunity." I myself have been reborn, so I think perhaps such a thing will happen.
"It seems the meteor shower is over. Let's go back inside." I turned and went inside.
Huo Yubai followed him in and closed the balcony door.
"Take all these medicines later, then get a good night's sleep. You should be completely fine by morning." I said, "I'm going back to my room too."
"Oh." Huo Yubai stood there, looking at me with teary eyes.
I pursed my lips: "I'll come and wake you up in the morning, and then we'll go back together."
"Okay!" He nodded. "Good night."
"Good night." I left his room.
Go back to your room.
I took a hot shower.
When I got back, Mu Xi was still messaging me.
Mu Xi: Did you give that camera away?
Me: Yes, I sent it.
Mu Xi: Does the other person like it?
I have no idea.
Mu Xi: ?
I explained it to you.
Mu Xi laughed loudly: Huo Yubai must have done it on purpose!
Me: He's too naive.
Mu Xi: Aren't you angry?
Me: I was angry at first, but after listening to him talk about his past, I softened.
Mu Xi: He did it on purpose. He knew he had angered you, so he played the victim to get your sympathy. He's cunning and sly.
Me: You even said you helped him?
Mu Xi: I helped him but I never betrayed you, and it doesn't stop me from cricketing with you.
I smiled silently.
Mu Xi: Yan Yan, you don't hate him, right?
Me: How could I hate it?
Mu Xi: Then why don't you consider him? To be honest, that man is already dead. You should be starting a new life.
Me: Xixi, that person is his own brother. How am I supposed to think about this? I'm afraid that I'll project my feelings for Huo Yushen onto him, which wouldn't be fair to him.
Mu Xi: There is no fairness in love. You have no regrets about Gu Heng, and you have not asked for fairness. You just feel that it is enough for him to give you some tenderness.
Me: You don't have to say it so harshly.
Mu Xi: I have something even harsher to say. I'm not trying to defend Huo Yubai, Shen Yan. I know something happened at home, and Huo Yubai is the only one who can protect you here. I'm genuinely worried about you. You could give it a try.
Me: I can protect myself too.
Mu Xi: That's different. Besides, Huo Yubai might not mind what you just said. Even if you project your feelings for Huo Yushen onto Huo Yubai, I don't think Huo Yubai would care. Even if it's all just a mirage, he would still be happy with it.
Me: But I would feel even more indebted to him.
Mu Xi: You're soft-hearted. The more you owe him, the better you treat him. He'll be thrilled.
I was both amused and exasperated.
Mu Xi: Why don't you give it a try? You won't lose anything anyway. From all aspects, Huo Yubai is a good candidate.
