Chapter 139 Give Me a Clear Path
Chapter 139 Give Me a Clear Path
When she got home, she was too tired to move. She opened her phone and saw a message from Feng Jiashu that had been sent an hour earlier. He had been sending her messages a lot these past few days, mostly just casual greetings.
Feng Jiashu: [Good evening, are you busy today?]
She typed on her keyboard and replied: 【Busy, how about you?】
It was concise and to the point, with a back-and-forth exchange, but it lacked a sense of human warmth.
Feng Jiashu: [It's alright, have you had dinner?]
He Qiaoyun: [No.]
Feng Jiashu: [It's already 7:30.]
He Qiaoyun: [Yes, it is quite late, but I was a little too hungry, but it's okay.]
Looking at her message on the other side of the screen, Feng Jiashu felt a sense of helplessness, as if he couldn't jump into the screen. All he could say was: "Then you should go eat something, this is bad for your stomach."
He Qiaoyun: [Hmm.]
After the conversation ended, Feng Jiashu remained typing for a long time, but the message still hadn't been sent.
He Qiaoyun waited for more than two minutes but did not see any message from him, so she exited the chat window, put down her phone and went into the kitchen.
I took the pork bones that the market vendor had chopped out from the refrigerator, washed them, and then put them into the pressure cooker with rice. I turned on the heat and started making bone porridge.
Actually, food cooked in a clay pot tastes better, but a pressure cooker is faster. At this hour, I'm not really concerned about the taste anymore; I just want to fill my stomach.
Pressure cookers are not like rice cookers; you have to watch the fire, or they'll burn dry. So she turned around and went back to the living room, picked up her phone again, and lay on the recliner to watch the videos she had taken that day.
I had only edited two videos when the pressure cooker started steaming. I had to put down my phone, go into the kitchen to turn off the heat, and then go back to my room to take a shower.
After taking a shower, I went into the kitchen, opened the refrigerator, took out a head of lettuce, washed it, blanched it with boiling water, plated it, and added some simple seasoning. That was my vitamin boost for the day.
The pork bone congee was seasoned just right. Opening the pressure cooker and smelling the aroma instantly whetted my appetite.
I ate three bowls of porridge and finished a small dish of vegetables, satisfying my empty stomach.
Looking up at the wall clock, it was already 9:30 pm. She got up to tidy up the table, went to the bathroom to wash up, and then turned on her computer and phone to do some simple accounting.
She worked on it until after 10 p.m., then closed her laptop with satisfaction, hugged her phone, and went to bed.
Today's video hasn't been edited yet.
But I was too exhausted, so I gave up.
After scrolling through videos for a while, my eyes were getting sleepy when a message from Feng Jiashu popped up: [Are you asleep?]
She stared at the message, hesitated for a moment, and replied: "Just about to sleep."
Feng Jiashu: [I'm having trouble sleeping.]
He Qiaoyun: [Why?]
Feng Jiashu: [Remembering some unpleasant things.]
Thinking about how his excessive obedience to his aunt indirectly led to her being bullied by Ruan Shu, thinking about his aunt's family secretly scheming to seize the inheritance he was leaving to Tian Tian, thinking about how his relationship with her was drifting further and further apart...
He Qiaoyun seemed to understand him perfectly, immediately knowing what he meant by "troublesome things". She didn't reply, thinking that she would cover it up by saying "I accidentally fell asleep" when she got up the next morning.
Unexpectedly, he called her. She hesitated for a long time, her finger hovering over the answer button, unable to make a move.
Just as the call was about to automatically disconnect, she lowered her hand, and the call was answered. A man's surprised voice came through the receiver: "You finally answered my call."
He Qiaoyun pursed her lips and sat up from the bed. "Is there something you want to say?"
Feng Jiashu paused on the phone, seemingly deep in thought, before finally saying, "Qiaoyun, what can I do to gain your forgiveness? Please show me the way."
These words successfully woke He Qiaoyun, who was so sleepy she could barely keep her eyes open, even though she was exhausted all over.
She held her phone, watching the seconds tick by, unsure how to respond to him.
"Is it hard to answer?" Feng Jiashu's voice was somewhat broken.
He Qiaoyun pursed her lips. "I'm a little tired now. Let's go to sleep early. Goodnight."
Then she hung up the phone.
Now, not only Feng Jiashu is having trouble sleeping, but she is going to have trouble sleeping too.
I couldn't sleep until the early hours of the morning, and my body finally gave out, so I fell asleep.
When I woke up again, it was bright outside the window. I picked up my phone and saw that it was already 7:30 in the morning.
Fortunately, nothing came up today. She lazily stayed in bed, opened her phone, and a message from Feng Jiashu popped up.
Feng Jiashu: [I'm sorry, I was too abrupt last night. Just pretend I didn't say anything.]
For some reason, seeing him say those words made her feel very uncomfortable, as if someone had grabbed her heart and she couldn't breathe.
I couldn't help but feel a little regretful about what I had said last night.
After a long pause, she replied: "Okay."
When Feng Jiashu received the message, he was about to go downstairs for breakfast. But after seeing her indifferent reply, he lost all interest in eating.
He Qiaoyun also felt that a simple "good" seemed too cold, but she didn't know how to make up for it, and she was annoyed for a while.
"never mind."
She got up to wash up and went into the kitchen, only to find that the leftover bone porridge from last night had gone bad because she had forgotten to put it in the refrigerator. Helpless, she poured it out and cooked herself a bowl of noodles.
On her way out, she delivered the spoiled porridge to Sister Xia's house, since Sister Xia raised chickens and ducks and she could mix it into the chicken feed.
Sister Xia took the porridge and said, "Oh dear, it's only a little spoiled, it's still edible. It would be such a waste to feed it to the chickens."
He Qiaoyun said, "It's edible, but it doesn't taste good, which really affects my mood."
It's not a famine era anymore, and there's no waste of leftover porridge. There's no need to live such a miserable life. Treat yourself well within your means, and you'll live a comfortable life.
Sister Xia couldn't help but sigh, "You're right, oh dear, I just can't do it, I'm used to saving money."
He Qiaoyun smiled and said, "Then I'll go and get busy."
"Okay, go ahead."
He Qiaoyun went to the greenhouse first; her task for the day was to remove the newly grown weeds.
This work could have been done by hiring someone, but since I was idle anyway and there weren't many weeds, I decided to do it myself.
As the sun slowly rose, the temperature inside the greenhouse continued to climb. Unable to bear it any longer, she glanced at the time—it was nearly eleven o'clock—and packed up her tools to go outside.
Walking to the roadside, I saw He Gui and his wife arguing under the shade of a tree. Their faces were red as they blamed each other for following the trend of growing grapes and for doing live streaming...
He Qiaoyun quietly passed by and was about to open the car door when He Gui called out to her, "He Qiaoyun, wait a moment."
She turned around. "What is it?"
He Gui and his wife Huang Juanjuan exchanged a glance. With no other choice, He Gui put on a stern face and said to He Qiaoyun, "We're asking you to help us sell goods via live streaming now. As we agreed before, we'll give you the sales commission you're entitled to. Is that okay?"
Huang Juanjuan chimed in, "That's right. If you come and sell goods via live streaming, as long as we cooperate with you, others will follow suit and seek cooperation with you as well. With so many people and so many grapes, you'll make a fortune."
He Qiaoyun looked at them and refused, saying, "But I don't want to."
She doesn't need their small sales commissions. People like them who value money above all else, if she really made money off them, they would make fun of her from the beginning of the year to the end.
Besides, people with such limited vision won't do it willingly. After the live stream sells out, there might be some fighting and trouble. Why bother making things difficult for yourself?
He Gui and his wife were surprised by her decisive refusal and became anxious. "Why don't you want to stop? We're trying to make up with you. As the saying goes, it's better to resolve a feud than to let it fester. If you help us out, we'll never bring up the past again."
He Qiaoyun didn't argue with them as usual, but smiled and said, "I accept making up, but forget about the live stream. Stop dreaming of getting rich overnight. It's better to find someone to reap the rewards as soon as possible."
He Gui and his wife were humiliated and turned back angrily.
